Fellow WGS Members,

Now that everyone has had a few days to recover, I wanted to take a moment to say thank you and reflect on what was a fantastic 2026 WGS Challenge Cup. The golf was competitive, the matches were close, and the banter was alive and well all weekend.

More importantly, the event brought members together in a way that reminds us why we enjoy being part of this club. It was great to see longtime members, newer members, and everyone in between spending time together, meeting new people, and sharing in a memorable weekend of golf.

Congratulations to the Eldorado Bandits on claiming this year’s Challenge Cup title. The competition was hard fought from start to finish, and both teams contributed to an outstanding event.

One of the most rewarding things for me was hearing the positive feedback from participants and from members who weren’t able to play this year. There has already

been plenty of interest and discussion about next year’s event, which is a good indication that we’re building something special.

I would like to thank my fellow Captains and Co-Captains:

  • Mike Carlile
  • Mark Kamachi
  • Neil Larocque

It was a pleasure working alongside you to help bring this event together. A lot of time went into planning, organizing teams, formats, communications, and all the little details that make an event run smoothly.

I’d also like to thank our Board representatives for their participation and support. Having club leadership directly involved alongside the member captains helped make the Challenge Cup a true club event and something I hope will continue to grow for years to come.

A special thank you goes to Steve, Trevor, and the entire Wintergreen staff. Their support, preparation, and hospitality played a huge role in the success of the weekend.

The course was in great shape, everything ran smoothly, and they helped create an atmosphere that everyone could enjoy. Several participants commented that it was one of the best organized Challenge Cup events they could remember.

Attached is a video that Steve shared following the event capturing many of the great moments from the weekend and the spirit of competition and camaraderie that made it such a success.

Thank you again to everyone who participated, volunteered, supported, and helped make this event possible.

I’m already looking forward to next year.

Regards,
Blaine Mitchell

The 2026 Wintergreen Wonder Cup was a huge success, much to the thanks of Trevor Edwards who organized the fun event this year.  There were sixteen ladies participating this year, which is more than we have had in several years so it was wonderful to see.

Team White was Kim Dumanowski, Deb Dymianiw, Nancy Schafer, Chelsea Olsen, Jane Henderson, Holly Becker, Mary Ann Watson and Jane Snider.

Team Navy had Barb Gibson, Jen Baker, Vicki Lamb, Andrea Nelson, Mhairi Ellen Laroque, Brigitte Edwards, Dawn Clancy and Sohpi Blahun.

At the end of the weekend, Team Navy was victorious by a small margin of 1 point.

A great time was had by all, and they have committed to coming back next season!

Our goal is to grow it even more for 2027!!!

Congratulations to everyone who participated 🎉
